Johns and Daley Cup Round One Wrap

The Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup competitions kicked off over the weekend, with the Monaro Colts teams both winning their opening round matches.

Andrew Johns Cup

The Colts Under 16s side recorded an 18-6 win in their round one clash against the Riverina Bulls at Pambula on Saturday.

Monaro were first on the scoreboard with prop Lane Davis crossing for a four-pointer and Blake Hovi successfully converting.

The Colts extended their lead to 12-0 with a try to second-rower Max Mercer and a conversion by Hovi.

Riverina scored first in the second half through Max Harland, with Jared McKinnon adding the two points. But Monaro hit back right on full-time, with Davis crossing for his second try of the game and Hovi again successfully converting, the final score 18-6.

The Colts take on the NMR Knights in round two on Saturday.

Laurie Daley Cup

The Monaro Colts Under 18s side kicked off their campaign with a 34-14 win over the Riverina Bulls at Pambula on Saturday.

The Colts started off well, jumping to a 24-6 lead at half-time. Winger Kane Rushton scored a first half hat-trick, with Jayden Ford also crossing the try-line.

Monaro picked up right where they left off in the second half, with Jack McDougall crossing for his team’s fifth try.

Captain and halfback Mitchell Evans was nearly perfect with the boot, kicking all three penalty goals and four from five conversions.

The Colts take on the NMR Knights next Saturday in round two.
