Young Raiders attend NRL Rookie Camp

The NRL Rookie Camp was held virtually last Friday with Michael Asomua, Caleb Esera, Brad Morkos and James Schiller representing the Canberra Raiders along with Wellbeing staff Andrew Bishop, David Thom and Sia Soliola.

The Rookie Camp is designed to induct new players into the NRL regarding the expectations of performing their role as an NRL player.

The camp focuses on the off-field requirements of being an NRL player, including the NRL Code of Conduct, player support and cultural awareness, personal brand and ethics and community engagement.

The day included presentations from NRL CEO, Andrew Abdo, RLPA CEO Clint Newton, former Raiders captain Alan Tongue and a range of other notable presenters.

Raiders Wellbeing Manager Andrew Bishop said the Raiders were proud to participate in this year’s Rookie Camp and that the players got a lot out of the experience.

“The Rookie Camp is a wonderful way for young players to get a handle on what to expect on and off the field as an NRL player,” Bishop said. “Our players thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we can head into the upcoming season knowing they are best prepared to take the next step in their careers.”
