Country Championships Round Two Wrap

The open men’s and women’s Monaro Colts sides have completed their two round fixtures in the 2022 Country Championships over the weekend, recording a win and a loss.

Due to the severe weather conditions across NSW, both the men’s and women’s competitions have been extended by a week to allow for washed-out games to be played before finals.

Men’s Opens

The open men’s side defeated the MacArthur Wests Tigers 52-8 at NSWRL HQ, Bruce, on the weekend, cementing their spot in finals for the second straight year.

The Colts have now won their past two matches by a combined margin of 80 points, looking extremely dangerous coming into the Country Championship finals.

The Colts will now wait to play their semi-final on the weekend of the 26/27 March to allow teams who have missed games due to the inclement weather, to catch up.

Women’s Opens

The open women’s side were unfortunate to go down 16-8 over the MacArthur Wests Tigers at home on Sunday afternoon.

The women’s side showed plenty of promise over the course of the match but were unable to execute opportunities into points.

They will now await results from the remaining games to see whether they will be playing finals alongside the open men’s side, after winning and losing a game each.

The remaining finals spots will most likely come down to for and against, where the Monaro side are currently in fourth position with a positive 10 for and against.
