Junior Reps Round Eight Preview

The Canberra Raiders’ junior representative teams will travel to Kenthurst in Sydney’s north-west this weekend to take on the Bears in round eight of their respective competitions.

The weekend’s games will kick off with the Tarsha Gale Cup at 11am at Hills Grammar with the other two games to follow throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

The Raiders’ Tarsha Gale Cup side enters the match one spot behind the Bears in 11th place, hoping to leapfrog them with a win. Canberra are coming off the back of a hard fought loss which saw them go down 16-6 against Cronulla in Sydney.

Both teams will be keen to end the season strongly with only two games remaining.

In the Harold Matthews Cup, the Raiders will come into their clash against the Bears full of confidence after coming from 10-0 down at half-time to steal an 18-10 win over the Sharks in round seven.

Canberra could jump into the top four with a victory over the Bears but will be more focused on securing a top six finish to make the finals. They will come into the game as favourites, with the Bears struggling so far this season only winning one game against the 13th placed Knights.

The Raiders SG Ball Cup game will finish off Canberra’s junior representative games for round eight with their match kicking off at 2pm.

The side didn’t quite get the result they were looking for last weekend going down 40-6 against a red-hot Sharks outfit. But a win against the 14th placed Bears could keep their dreams alive of playing finals and having a shot at being back to back SG Ball Cup winners.

It hasn’t been a smooth season for the Raiders with cancelled games and a bye creating a month-long gap game between games midway through this season. However, Canberra have shown an ability to beat lower ranked sides which they will play in their final two games this year.
