NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 15 Preview

The NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg competitions are back again this weekend, with the Canberra Raiders coming up against the Newcastle Knights across both Saturday and Sunday at home.

It has been a successful fortnight for the Raiders NSW Cup team, coming away with wins against the top two sides of the competition.

The squad will be looking to continue their momentum when they come up against the Newcastle Knights at GIO Stadium on Sunday, with kick off set for 11:30am before the NRL match.

The Raiders have named an unchanged line-up for this round, looking to build on an impressive performance last Saturday.

Among the best players against Penrith included the returning Albert Hopoate, who along with his two tries, was able to run a match-high 205 metres and secure a line break.

Another impressive all-round performance from him will certainly boost the Raiders chances of victory, however the biggest battle of the game will likely be in the halves.

Brad Schneider is scheduled to come up against Tex Hoy in the number seven jersey, with both halfbacks having spent time in the NRL this season.

This first grade experience will be crucial for the two halves, as they look to control the match for their respective sides.

Since moving into the NSW Cup team, Schneider has been brilliant for the Raiders, collecting five try assists over his two matches in the competition.

His combination with Joshua James has been a key reason behind the side’s recent success, with the duo aiming to make it three wins in a row on Sunday.

For the Knights a victory is crucial if they want to potentially play finals football this year, with their current two game losing streak pushing them down to ninth.

The Raiders will instead be looking to ensure that that streak continues, with a win in front of a big home crowd likely to lift them up the competition ladder.

Fresh of a victory against the Panthers last Saturday, the Raiders Jersey Flegg team will be looking to continue their momentum when they come up against the Newcastle Knights at Raiders Belconnen on Saturday at 11:30am.

After a tough few matches, the side were able to find some serious form against the Panthers last weekend, with the team leading from start to finish in an important victory.

The Raiders have named an unchanged line-up, looking to build off that victory into another tough clash.

Currently sitting in eighth with nine matches to go, a win is crucial for the Green Machine, as they look to solidify a place in the finals positions.

Fresh off a defeat at the hands of the Cronulla Sharks, the Knights will be looking to bounce back after the loss saw them drop out of the top two for the first time since round seven.

In their first road trip since round 11, the Knights will be looking to put together a complete performance, aiming to prove themselves as one of the competition heavyweights.
