Katrina Fanning Shield 2022: Round 10 Preview

The Katrina Fanning Shield is set for another huge weekend of rugby league, headlined by a top of the table clash between the Magpies and Bulldogs to close out round ten action.

UC Stars v South Coast United, Raiders Belconnen, 10:00am Saturday 9th July

The UC Stars will host South Coast United on Saturday morning, which will kick off a huge day at Raiders Belconnen.

The Stars showed promising signs to start the season with two wins and two losses, but have suffered heavy defeats in their last two games which puts them seventh on the ladder.

The Stars for and against has taken a big hit, conceding 138 points while scoring zero but still sit just one win outside the top five.

South Coast United are sitting in that fifth position and are coming off a 32-9 win over the Raiders.

It’s been a successful debut season in the competition for United and a win this weekend could cement their fifth position on the ladder.

As we enter the bitter end of the season, this match will have a huge impact on the ladder come season's end, so both sides will be hoping to grab an important two points.

Woden Valley Rams v Tuggeranog Bushrangers, Phillip Oval, 10:40am Saturday 9th July

The Rams will be hoping to bounce back against the Bushrangers at home this weekend after last week's loss to the Magpies.

It was only the second loss of the season for the Rams who have endured a very disrupted season, but still sit inside the top four.

Despite the loss to the Magpies, the Rams can take plenty of confidence out of the match, only going down 20 points with a player sent off early in the second half.

The Bushrangers will also be hoping to get back in the winners circle after last week's disappointing loss to the Blues.

The Bushrangers currently sit in sixth, tied with the fifth placed United but have a poorer for and against.

Both sides will be desperate to bounce back after losses last weekend, with the Rams hoping to cement their top four spot and the Bushrangers hoping to stay in touch with the top five.

Queanbeyan Blues v Harden Worhawks, Seiffert Oval, 12:00pm Saturday 9th July

The Blues will be aiming for back to back wins this weekend when they host the Worhawks at Seiffert Oval.

It was an important win over the Bushrangers last weekend for the Blues, who now find themselves just one win outside the top three.

Despite sitting in fourth, the Blues have established themselves as one of the premier teams in the competition with the second best attack and defence.

Unfortunately it's been a tough season for the Worhawks who have shown promising signs in patches this season.

Harden finally got their first win of the season a few weeks ago but have since suffered back to back losses.

However, It's not over yet for the Worhawks who just sit two wins outside of the top five.

The Worhawks will have enjoyed the bye last weekend as they prepare to compete with one of the competition's premier sides.

Goulburn City Bulldogs v Yass Magpies, Workers Arena, 12:00pm Sunday 10th July

The final game of the round will see the Bulldogs host the Magpies in a top of the table clash on Sunday morning.

The stage is set for a cracking game between last year's joint minor premiers who have only taken a step up in 2022.

The sides met in round one earlier this season with the Magpies picking up a 30-18 win at home.

Since then, both sides are undefeated with the Magpies not conceding a loss this season.

The Bulldogs have not lost a game at home in 2022, so one of these winning runs will come to an end on Sunday morning.

The Magpies currently sit two wins in front of the Bulldogs and with a healthy lead on top of the ladder.

The Bulldogs will see this game as a must win if they want a chance of retaining that minor premiership.

The biggest battle heading into this match will be the Bulldogs defence and Magpies attack.

The Bulldogs defence has only conceded 10 points in their last four games while the Magpies attack is scoring 42 points per game on average.

This is set to be a true blockbuster of a match and the team that earns the victory will gain a tremendous amount of confidence heading into the last part of the season.
