Canberra Raiders Cup: Preliminary Final Wrap

Only two teams remain in the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup competition in season 2022, with the Blues securing the last grand final spot over the weekend.

Queanbeyan Blues 36 d Woden Valley Rams 22

The Queanbeyan Blues are through to a grand final clash with West Belconnen, after defeating the Rams by 14-points at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues who finished fourth coming into the postseason were unstoppable from the get go, scoring two tries in the first seven minutes of action to open up an early lead.

Queanbeyan fullback Matthew Parsons had his usual impactful first half, registering a double and wreaking havoc across the park.

It was a lopsided opening 40 minutes, ending with Blues holding a comfortable 22-nil lead.

The Rams had struggled to ask questions of the Blues’ defence the whole first half and needed to change that quickly to bring Woden back into the contest.

They started exactly the way they would have drawn it up in the sheds at halftime, scoring two tries to bring them within ten-points of the Blues.

But Queanbeyan stayed strong and managed to resist the fast start from the Rams to hold onto the win.

The loss means season over for Woden Valley who have been unlucky with injuries and suspension in important parts of the year.

But considering that, they have done an exceptional job to have made through to a preliminary final and have showed incredible signs of improvement.

Queanbeyan will return to action on Sunday in a grand final against the top side in the competition in the Warriors.
