Griffith will welcome Canberra Region Wheelchair Rugby League to celebrate the grand opening of the newly constructed Griffith Regional Sports Complex at Westend on Saturday, October 29.

The Griffith Regional Sports Complex is a $31.9 million project which will feature a total of seven indoor basketball courts with seating for over 1,000 people, seven all weather netball courts, a new synthetic athletics track with new lighting, a new synthetic turf hockey pitch and a new grandstand.

The Griffith City Council received a $50,000 grant from the Regional Sport Events Fund program. The funding was secured to hold a free super-sized come and try day to open the new complex.

The official opening ceremony will take place from 9am on Saturday, October 29,  where Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be in attendance alongside Mayor Councillor of Griffith, Doug Curran.

Canberra Region Wheelchair Rugby League will host a demonstration match followed by a come and try event open to the general public after the official opening.

The Wheelchair Rugby League activation will be set up on courts one and two and the program will run from 11am til 2pm.

CRRL are proud to have partnered with Griffith City Council and Intereach to support regional and community sport including our all-inclusive Wheelchair Rugby League program.

Attributed to Intereach Acting CEO Yvette Buhagiar: "Our partnership with the Canberra Raiders and Griffith City Council has created a wonderful opportunity to show that no matter your skills we all have the ability to participate.

The program is creating social inclusion, new skills and being part of a team. We are proud to be part of it."

The CRRL are continually recruiting players to play regularly in our Wheelchair Rugby League competitions including a local Griffith team.

The pathway is in-place for the opportunity for individuals to progress from local and community participation through to the representative and international level.
