Junior Reps Preview Round Nine

All three junior representative grades are in the fight for finals heading into their last regular game of the season.

SG Ball Cup

The SG Ball side sits on top of the table going into their final game of the season, with a win against the Tigers cementing the minor premiership for the first time in the history of the competition.

After suffering only their first loss of the season last week against the eighth-placed Steelers, the Raiders will have a chance to be the minor premiers given they win against the Tigers.

As the Panthers are tied on points going into the final round the stakes have never been higher, as whichever team wins against their respective opposition will sit atop the table at the season’s end.

Coach Peter Marrapodi is comfortable that his team will be ready come finals time.

“The guys have been working really hard for a lot of months now, so I expect them to be set up pretty well to perform come the finals,” Marrapodi said.

With their first loss of the season last weekend, Marrapodi admits that they haven’t been playing as well as they could have and that the recent loss will enhance their players focus as they approach the finals.

“It certainly sharpens our focus and we stopped seeing the wins through rose-covered glasses, I think a few boys have learnt a few lessons this week and I do expect a much better performance this weekend”, said Marrapodi.

Reflecting on their loss, Marrapodi wants to fix up their defence and be more responsible with the ball but effort and intensity is the sole focus.

“I said to the players during the week, normally when there is a lot of things to work on normally it just comes down to one thing and that’s intensity and turning up with the right attitude,” Marrapodi said.

“It’s always the hard work that I’m proud of, the effort. The skill stuff, that comes with time and training but it all starts with the effort and the competitive aspect of it.”

A few changes to the line-up this week with Ryan Woolley coming into the right edge as Lekani Mpaso switches to the left edge to make way.

Tahrell Feaveai has been moved to the bench with captain Owen Hromow taking his place in prop.

Jack Anderson has been promoted from the bench to start at lock against the Tigers.

As for the Tigers, only one change to their team with centre Kian Edmed swapping for Joseph Schmitzer who is named on the bench.

The match between the Raiders and Tigers will take place on 2:00pm Saturday April 1 at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney.

Harold Matthews Cup

The Harold Matthews side will look to secure their spot in the finals as they take on the Tigers this weekend.

After going down to the Steelers by 18 points last weekend, they currently sit in sixth place on the ladder heading into the final game of the season.

To be able to comfortably secure a spot in the finals, a win against the Tigers could bump them up to second on the ladder depending on other results from the round.

With only two points separating first-placed Bulldogs and sixth-placed Raiders, the ladder could suffer a full re-arrangement, which could spell for some dramatic change-ups.

Playing an eighth-placed Tigers outfit that defeated the Central Coast Roosters last weekend will prove a difficult opposition for the Raiders away from home but nothing they can’t overcome.

The Raiders have only made one personnel change to their team with Lucas McPherson going onto the interchange bench in replace of Callum Rossiter.

The centre pairing of Lachlan Cunanan and Harry Hudson have swapped edges with Cunanan starting on the left edge and Hudson on the right.

James Safi comes in for Jamie Carroll in the right centre position for the Tigers in the only change for the team.

The game will take place at 12:30pm Saturday April 1 at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney.
