NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 14 Wrap

A tough weekend for our NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg teams with both sides recording losses in round 14 action.

NSW Cup

The Raiders NSW Cup side went down 26-18 to the Western Suburbs Magpies at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday.

Xavier Savage scored in the final five minutes to set up a tight finish but the Raiders were unable to get through the Magpies defence.

Earlier, the Raiders opened the scoring with Danny Levi going over for a try in the fourth minute. Brad Schneider converted to give the visitors an early 6-0 lead.

The Magpies hit back with two straight tries to give them a 12-6 lead, before Savage scored his first of the day in the 26th minute.

Schneider converted to level the scores before slotting a penalty goal a couple of minutes later to give the Raiders a 14-12 lead at the half-time break.

Western Suburbs came out firing after the break and jumped to a 26-14 lead after scoring two converted tries and a penalty goal.

Savage scored in the final fine minutes but it wasn't enough as the Magpies took home the two points.

The Raiders take on the Warriors next Saturday afternoon at Raiders Belconnen.

Jersey Flegg

The Raiders Jersey Flegg team suffered a tight 34-32 loss to the Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park on Saturday.

Both teams scored six tries a piece, with the Raiders staging a big second half comeback which unfortunately fell just short.

The Raiders trailed 22-0 after 22 minutes of play before Jack Clydsdale and Peyton Jenkins each went over for a try to bring the score to 22-10 at the half-time break.

The Sea Eagles scored first in the second half to extend their lead to 28-10. But the Raiders were again able to fight back, this time with Joseph Roddy and Keahn Skipps scoring.

Jenkins converted both tries to bring the score-line to 28-22 with 26 minutes of play remaining.

Manly re-gained the momentum and extended their lead to 34-22 before Raiders winger Livai Kaloutolu and hooker Toby Thorburn scored to make the score 34-32 with seven minutes remaining.

But the Sea Eagles were able to hold out the Raiders to claim the win.

The Raiders have a bye this weekend.
