Dummett brought into NRLW top squad

Canberra Raiders NRLW development player, Alanna Dummett has been brought into the club’s top 24 squad following Felice Quinlan’s season-ending ankle injury.

Originally from Bega, Dummett has come through the Raiders’ system in recent years, playing two seasons of Tarsha Gale Cup in 2021 and 2022, including being captain of the side last year.

The 19-year-old was part of the NSW Under 19s squad in 2022 and was a member of the Mounties team that won the 2023 Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership earlier this year.

Raiders NRLW coach Darrin Borthwick said while it was unfortunate to see Quinlan miss the remainder of the season following her recent surgery, he was excited to see Dummett join the top squad.

“It’s a good opportunity for Alanna now, she had a really good season with Mounties in the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership and she was rewarded with a development contract,” Borthwick said.

“Now obviously Fee is injured and Alanna is elevated into the top 24 and has been training really well and on the back of a good season with Mounties and a Premiership I’m really happy for her.

“She is from our area too, she’s from Bega and I think she’s a good addition to our squad.

“She spent two years with our Tarsha Gale squad and I gave her the option to play at Mounties and she took that opportunity. She deserves every chance that she’s got now and I’m really happy for her. She’s a good player and she’s fitted into this group really well. I won’t be afraid to use her.”

Borthwick said that Quinlan will continue her rehab with the club and looks forward to seeing her back on the field next season.

“She’s been keeping quite active, she’s had her surgery. She’s been sitting up in the coach’s box with me doing some statistics and stuff like that. It’s good for her to see a different side because she isn’t playing but I’m very, very happy that Fee is still in and around the group.”
