NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 23 Wrap

The Raiders NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides have had a successful weekend with both teams getting a win as the competitions enter the last few weeks.

NSW Cup

The NSW Cup Raiders side defeated the Western Suburbs Magpies 28-22 on Saturday afternoon at Raiders Belconnen.

This win now puts the side in seventh position on the ladder only one point out of the top five with three games left of the regular season before finals.

The Raiders came out firing scoring the first three tries through Harley Smith-Shields, Matt Frawley, and Josh Allen.

The team managed to not concede a try until the 37th minute when Magpies centre Semisi Kioa scored a try.

The Magpies looked to be a changed side in the second half after they scored two quick tries from Brandon Mansfield in the 43rd minute and Triston Reilly in the 48th minute which had scores close at 18-16.

The Raiders were able to skip ahead with tries from Matt Frawley in the 63rd minute for his second of the afternoon and James Schiller in the 70th minute which had scores at 28-16.

The Magpies scored a late one in the final minute of the game from Sione Hopoate and a conversion from Brandon Wakeham which left the final score 28-22.

The Raiders will now take on the sixth-placed Newtown Jets at 3pm on Saturday 12th August at Henson Park, Sydney.
