Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 12 Wrap

We welcomed back the Katrina Fanning Shield over the weekend, which brought some entertaining games across the board as we approach finals.

Tier 1

West Belconnen Warriors 28 d Yass Magpies 24

West Belconnen have bridged the gap, knocking off Yass 28-24 in an epic encounter at Walker Park on Saturday.

The Warriors jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the break, carrying plenty of momentum into the second half.

Westies winger Sharon Waihape found some space in the corner to crash over for an important try to extend the visitors lead.

Despite a late surge from Yass, the Warriors were able to hang on for an important victory over one of the competition heavyweights.

Gungahlin Bulls 20 d Goulburn City Bulldogs 8

Gungahlin continue to skip away from the pack at the top of the KFS ladder, securing a dominant 20-8 victory over Goulburn.

But it was the Bulldogs who were the first to strike through Madysson Shoemark, who received a beautiful offload from Annika Picker to score.

The Bulls then hit back before halftime to lock the scores 6-all, until Picker converted a penalty goal to put them back in front 8-6.

But it was all one-way traffic after that as the Bulls ran away with the 12-point victory, courtesy of try doubles to Jacquiline Pele and Kayla Fleming.

The Bulls will now take on a strong West Belconnen outfit while Goulburn will host Yass.

Tier 2

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 62 d Queanbeyan Kangaroos 0

Tuggeranong didn’t skip a beat as they put 62 unanswered points on Queanbeyan.

The Bushrangers started hot with Jana Teivonen barging over the line for a double, and Zoe Podmore scoring her first of the day within 10 minutes.

Going into the break at 32-0, Tuggeranong didn’t take their foot off the pedal.

Nirvana Ngan-Woo rattled the Roo’s defensive line with every carry, picking up two tries of her own.

While Podmore’s illusiveness as hooker got her over the line for two more, securing her hat-trick.

Tuggeranong will now test themselves against a strong Harden outfit, while Queanbeyan look to bounce back against Woden.

Queanbeyan Blues 44 d Harden Hawks 12

Queanbeyan remain as the team to beat, securing a dominant 44-12 victory over Harden.

The Blues started with a bang, scoring two tries within the first five minutes.

They went on to score 20 points in the first half, with Angelina Hunter scoring a double on the wing.

The Worhawks were able to stay in the fight, scoring three of their own, with Emma Bayley getting over the line for a double.

The game was still in the balance, as they went into the break at 20-12.

But Queanbeyan couldn’t be stopped in the second half, scoring 24 more points, courtesy of doubles from Briony Frater and Chantelle Mckenzie.

Harden will now take on an in-form Tuggeranong outfit, while Queanbeyan enjoy a well-earned week off.
