Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 14 Preview

In the fifth round of the split competition, there are some fiery fixtures to come this week across the two tiers.

Tier 1

Gungahlin Bulls vs Yass Magpies, Greenway Oval 9:30 am Saturday 19th August 2023

The Gungahlin Bulls will take on the Yass Magpies this weekend in a battle of the top two teams of the competition.

The two teams are only separated by one point on the top of the ladder with a win to the Magpies to take them above the first placed Bulls.

The Magpies will be brimming with confidence this week after defeating the Bulldogs last weekend by 48 points to lead them into their game at Greenway Oval this weekend.

The game is set to take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, with the Bulls desperate to fight back after their 32 point defeat to the West Belconnen Warriors last weekend.

Lucy Prosser has been in spectacular form since the revised competition split, scoring 7 tries in the past four games for Magpies.

Bull Kayla Fleming is also not far off on the try scoring charts scoring four tries in as many games, making this encounter between the top two teams one to watch.

Goulburn City Bulldogs vs West Belconnen Warriors, Philip Oval 9:30 am Saturday 19th August 2023

The Goulburn City Bulldogs will take on the West Belconnen Warriors this weekend as both teams desperately try to stay in touch with the top two teams.

Two rounds remain in the regular season as the Warriors sit four points away from second placed Magpies.

The first and second placed teams at the end of the season will each be gifted a second chance come finals with the Warriors desperately vying for that second place finish.

Warriors big win over the Bulls last weekend takes them to two wins from four in the Tier 1 competition, giving them a major boost in confidence against the Bulldogs this weekend.

Rosaline Aumale and Crystal Papalii have both scored four tries each for the Warriors in the last four games, meanwhile Paige Cotterill is Bulldogs leading try scorer in the Tier 1 competition.

Tier 2

Harden Worhawks vs Tuggeranong Bushrangers, Boorowa Showground, 11:30 am Saturday 19th August 2023

We are now into the Qualifying Finals of the Tier 2 competition, as Harden Worhawks take on Tuggeranong Bushrangers at Boorowa on Saturday.

The Worhawks and Bushrangers will play for the second week in a row after the Bushies were four point victors last weekend.

The Worhawks will be out for revenge after last week’s 26-22 loss, with the winner of this match to play the minor premiers Queanbeyan Blues next weekend.

Harden’s Emma Bailey has been on a try scoring frenzy of late, scoring 10 tries in four games and will look to add even more to her tally this weekend.

Bushrangers’ Nirvana Ngan-Woo scored a hat-trick against the Worhawks last weekend as she continues to dominate in the forward line.
