The Canberra Region Rugby League are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Richard ‘Ricky’ White, a legendary figure of the game in Canberra.

Ricky primarily represented a Gungahlin Bulls foundation club, the Belconnen United Panthers, formed in 1969 when the Belconnen District was only a few years old.

He captain-coached the Panthers in the 70s, guiding the side to their first grand final in 1973. He built the foundation for the club which propelled them to win five consecutive premierships in proceeding years (1975-1979).

He also captain-coached West Belconnen to their first ever grand final, before returning to help a struggling Panthers outfit in 1986.

Additionally, Ricky played for the Canberra Workers and Ainslie, featuring in over 450 rugby league games in his playing career.

The CRRL would like to thank Gungahlin Bulls RLFC life member Tony Sanz for providing this information and for honouring Ricky White and his great contribution to the game of rugby league in the region.
