Junior Reps Preview: Round Two

Round two of the junior representative competitions is this weekend, with the Raiders SG Ball and Tarsha Gale sides hosting the Illawarra Steelers while the Harold Matts team travel to the Central Coast.

UNE Harold Matthews Cup

The Raiders Harold Matthews Cup side take on the Central Coast Roosters this weekend, having learnt some lessons from last week's loss.

The Raiders went down to the Knights in what was the first match of the competition last weekend. Despite leading 16-4 at half-time, the Raiders were unable to get the job done against a strong Knights side.

But Raiders coach Rourke O'Sullivan said that the team took a lot of lessons from the game.

“Yeah we lost the game but there were definitely a lot of positives from the match," O'Sullivan said.

"We did a review from the weekend and we’re really keen for this weekend to fix some things that we weren’t quite nailing.

“We played pretty well for most of the game but we just didn’t play our best for ten minutes and good teams like Newcastle are going to punish you and they did. So we’re really keen to make amends this weekend.”

This weekend sees the Raiders travel up north to the Central Coast for the first away trip of the season, something that O'Sullivan says the players are looking forward to.

“We quite enjoy away trips, getting on the bus together but obviously it is a bit of a challenge being a long trip up to the Central Coast," O'Sullivan said.

"But we’re excited for the challenge and we know Central Coast had the first week off so they are going to be ready for a tough game so we’re excited.”

Only one change to the team from last week, with Thomas Handsaker coming onto the interchange bench. He replaces Maz Patau.

One player who impressed O'Sullivan last week was lock Jack Milne, who has been named in the number 13 jersey again this weekend.

“There’s been a few, I think Jack Milne in particular was really good for us on the weekend," O'Sullivan said.

"He’s a kid from Parkes, he played 60 minutes in the middle and I’ve been really impressed with his work ethic.”

Kick off for the round two clash is 2:30pm Saturday 10 February at Morry Breen Oval, Central Coast.
