The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup side impressed at home this Saturday, defeating the Western Suburbs Magpies with a smashing final score of 50-12 at GIO Stadium Canberra.
Raiders second rower Mitchell Spencer was the first to make it over the line and score at the 14-minute mark, followed by a successful conversion by halfback Adam Cook.
20 minutes in a knock on from the Magpies after change over made way for the Raiders James Schiller to score his first try of the game. This was successfully converted by Cook, bringing the score to 12-0.
Another error by the Magpies made way for Raiders centre Manaia Waitere to score. At 28 minutes, James Schiller made a line break from the ruck straight towards the try line. Both tries were successfully converted by Cook, bringing the score to 24-0.
With four minutes to go until half time, Michael Asomua made some noise, running across the field and assisting Chevy Stewart to score the Raiders fifth try of the game. Another successful conversion by Cook gave the Raiders a commanding lead of 30-0 going into half time.
In the first two minutes of the second half, Magpies fullback Heath Mason made a lucky break, scoring a try that was successfully converted by Alex Lobb, bringing the score to 30-6.
15 minutes into the second half, Magpies’ centre Declan Casey was sin binned after a holding down a tackle with Loghan Lewis.
Raiders continued their good form throughout the second half, with a try scored from Jed Stuart at 61 minutes. Less than five minutes later, James Schiller followed up with a hat trick, bringing the score to a clean 40-6.
In the last 15 minutes of the game, Raiders second rower Simi Sasagi and Trey Mooney both made their mark, scoring tries that brought the score to 50-6.
Magpies Declan Casey came in hungry after his sin bin, scoring the last try of the match with a successful conversion from Alex Lobb.
The Raiders wrapped up with a commanding 50-12 victory, taking confidence into next Saturday's round three clash against the Warriors at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan.
