The Queanbeyan Kangaroos will push to go back-to-back in the Canberra Raiders Cup First Grade following an as good as perfect 2023 campaign.

In the Katrina Fanning Shield, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos and Bungendore Tigers combine as the Bungendore Kangaroos, providing more depth and competitiveness for the squad in 2024.

While the Queanbeyan Kangaroos League Tag side look to make big improvements on last year's season.

The Roos first grade side lose a few key players from last season, including their strike centres Harry Quinlan and Steven Numambo who now compete in the Queensland Cup.

“We lost our two centres but they’re going in the right direction and that’s what it’s all about, as much as it is winning comps, we want to give people an opportunity," said Roos captain-coach Sam Williams.

“I think the most impressive thing for us last year was that it was all the local boys that were the heart and soul it”.

Williams says the key to their success is to continue with the same principles they had last year.

“Last year the biggest thing that was pleasing was, when people came in to do a job, the principles that we put in place as a club, that was the important thing," Williams said.

“So we’ve been getting back to them and doing all the little things right.

“It’s just about getting back into that groove that made us successful last year”.

Bungendore Kangaroos player Jen Agresta touched on the benefits of the Queanbeyan-Bungendore merge.

“It’s really good that we can have two rural New South Wales clubs come together to be a competitive side," said Agresta.

“We’re all just grateful we can get out there and play some footy”.

Roos League Tag player Kate Warren is excited to carry on with the momentum they started to build in the back end of last year.

“In the back end of the 2023 season we actually did become that bit more competitive," Warren said.

“We look to 2024 optimistically and want to keep that momentum up and get out there and make a bit of an impact and show the other teams what we can be made of”.

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos and Bungendore Kangaroos face the Belconnen United Sharks in round one at NSWRL HQ.
