After a superb year in the Canberra Raiders Cup First Grade, the Tuggeranong Bushrangers continue to build as they charge into the new season.

While the Katrina Fanning Shield and League Tag sides reflect on the lessons learned from last year, and look to translate those insights into a season of  improved performance in 2024.

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers earned their way to the first grade grand final through being a "tough and gritty" side, qualities they aim to carry into 2024.

“We’re just continuing with how we went last year, we want to be a really tough and gritty side that can go the 80 minutes and really grind teams out," Tuggeranong player Brad Buckley said.

“We know, especially early on in the year, you win your games based off your defence, so that’s our main focus and our attack will come”.

Buckley also touched on the young talent they have coming through and the role he wants to take as a leader of the club in 2024.

“A few of the younger boys coming up will be good to see, you see them play 19’s and they’re standouts, it’s going to be good to see them come up into first grade and play against men and more experienced players," Buckley said.

“I’m one of the senior boys in the team now, I want to take that role and take that next step to be a bit more of a leader for the club”.

Bushrangers KFS player Jana Trevion reflected on last year and their focus for 2024.

“We did fall a bit short last year, but we’ve definitely looked back and learnt from that now, so we know what to work on going into this year, which is making us really excited," said Trevion.

“Our focus has been to slow everything down, getting that technique right, as well as working on those new skills that we do have coming through”.

After a disappointing season last year, Tuggeranong League Tagger Cassandra Madrid talked about the sides simple goals for the year.

“Honestly we just want to take at least a few more wins up our sleeve, we want to get around each other as we always do, no negativity just positivity, and just see how we play out".

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers will travel out to Walker Park to face the Yass Magpies in round one of the Canberra Raiders Cup and Katrina Fanning Shield.
