Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Two Preview

The 2024 Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield will commence this Saturday, after a wash out last weekend, with four games set to kick-off Canberra's premier women's tackle competition.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Woden Valley Rams, 10:40am Saturday 13 April at Greenway Oval

The KFS will be underway with an exciting south-side derby at Greenway Oval, which sees the Woden Valley Rams travel to take on the Tuggeranong Bushrangers in a semi-final rematch from last year.

The Bushrangers got a taste of finals heartbreak in 2023, going down to the Blues in the tier two preliminary final.

Meanwhile, the Rams found it tough after featuring in the 2022 grand final, finishing fourth in the tier two competition, and falling short to Tuggeranong in the first week of finals.

There is no doubt both sides will be looking bounce back after disappointing finals series losses and start off the 2024 season with a win.

Goulburn City Bulldogs v Yass Magpies, 10:40am Saturday 13 April at Workers Arena

The Goulburn City Bulldogs will be hosting the Yass Magpies at home this weekend at Workers Arena as both regional NSW clubs go head-to-head.

Following a premiership year in 2022, Yass failed to go back-to-back, going down to Westies by a mere two points in a heartbreaking grand final loss.

The Bulldogs are set to build upon a strong foundation, after competing with the top teams in the Tier 1 split last season.

While the Bulldogs will be looking to impress their home crowd, Yass will be hungry for a win this Saturday following their devastating grand final defeat.

Gungahlin Bulls v Belconnen Sharks, 12:00pm Saturday 13 April at Jamison Enclosed Oval

Belconnen will play host to a special fixture at midday this Saturday, as the Sharks play their first ever match in the KFS against the Bulls.

The Sharks have had their eyes on a KFS team for some time, which will come to fruition this Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Gungahlin Bulls are a major premiership threat that will no doubt be hungry to avenge their disappointing finals series, which saw them bounce out in straight sets to Yass and West Belconnen.

This game is sure to be one to watch, as both teams will be hungry for success early in the season.

Bungendore Kangaroos v Queanbeyan Blues, 12:30pm Saturday 13 April at Mick Sherd Oval

The Kangaroos will host the Blues in an exciting round one clash at Mick Sherd Oval this Saturday afternoon.

The Kangaroos are another new team to the KFS competition, following collaboration between the Queanbeyan Roos and Bungendore Tigers.

The Blues boast a legacy of competitiveness, after taking out the tier two premiership against Harden in the 2023 season.

Saturday afternoon marks as a big opportunity for the Kangaroos to prove themselves, and bag an early victory at home.
