Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Two Wrap

The Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield is underway, with plenty of talent showcased around the grounds in round two of Canberra's premier women's tackle competition.

Woden Valley Rams 36 d Tuggeranong Bushrangers 12

The Woden Valley Rams have successfully kickstarted their season with a comprehensive victory over the Tuggeranong Bushrangers at Greenway oval.

Donelle O’Donnell was impressive for the Rams as the outside back crossed for two tries, while halfback Ella Cosgrove also crossed for a four pointer.

The Rams will be looking to continue their strong start to the season when they face the Goulburn City Bulldogs at home in Round 3.

While suffering defeat, the Bushrangers will be pleased with elements of their performance and look to bounce back in Round 3 against the West Belconnen Warriors who are fresh off a bye.

Yass Magpies 36 d Goulburn City Bulldogs 4

The Yass Magpies have travelled to the home of the Goulburn City Bulldogs and walked away with the two points to start their 2024 season.

Prop forward Samara Afele was instrumental for the Magpies with a strong performance in the middle, capped off with two tries.

Five-eighth Emma James also impressed for the Magpies with an impressive display of goal kicking, seeing her convert six goals from as many attempts.

Bulldogs hooker Olivia Howe scored the only try for Goulburn in a disappointing performance for the side.

After a strong season last year, the Bulldogs will have an opportunity to rebound quickly ahead of them in Round 3 when they face the Woden Valley Rams.

Gungahlin Bulls 22 d Belconnen United Sharks 4

The Gungahlin Bulls have impressed their fans with a victory at home to start the season against the Belconnen United Sharks.

The Bulls spoiled the inaugural game for the Sharks with a 22-4 victory orchestrated by fullback Caitlin Turnbull, who scored two tries for Gungahlin.

Jayda Danilczak has the honour of being the first try scorer for Belconnen United in their history in the Katrina Fanning Shield, with this being the only try for the Sharks in the contest.

The task for the Sharks doesn’t get easier as they welcome the Blues to their home ground who are coming off a strong first round performance, whilst the Bulls face the undefeated Magpies.

Queanbeyan Blues 70 d Bungendore Kangaroos 0

The Queanbeyan Blues have started their 2024 season with a strong attacking and defensive performance against the Bungendore Kangaroos.

Fullback Calliah Murray scored three tries for the Blues, while centre Lauren Bersinic also crossed the line on two occasions.

The first game for the merger club was a performance the Bungendore Kangaroo's will want to significantly build on as they continue to gel as a playing group and work on their combinations.

The Blues will look to continue their strong start to the season against the Belconnen United Sharks next week away from home, while the Kangaroos have a bye.
