NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Round 8 Wrap

The Raiders’ NSW Cup side scored another important win over the Bears at GIO Stadium while the Jersey Flegg side fell to the Storm at Raiders Belconnen on the weekend.

The Knock-on Effect NSW Cup

The Raiders' NSW Cup side survived a late scare to defeat the Bears 36-26 at GIO Stadium.

It was the Bears to open the scoring with Matt Komolafe who went over in the second minute of play.

It only took the Raiders 12 minutes to get on the board with Myles Martin spinning his way to the tryline to score his first try in Green.

It was all green in the first half as the Raiders raided the tryline, scoring three consecutive tries to give them a healthy 24-4 lead going into the break.

The Bears knew they had to start quickly to bring the game back to life, and that they did.

The visitors scored two tries in quick succession to bring the deficit back to 24-14.

The Green Machine hit back off of Danny Levi as he scooted out of dummy half and put it down to score his second and further pushed the Raiders' lead.

The Bears still wouldn’t go away as they scored two consecutive tries, with Matt Komolafe scoring his second, which gave the Bears a four-point deficit.

The Bears were hungry for a comeback, but it was the big front rower Trey Mooney who powered over the line to cancel out any chance of a Bears comeback.

The Raiders sit in seventh position on the ladder after the 36-26 win against the Bears.

Canberra will look to continue their momentum heading into round nine against the Panthers at Parker Street Reserve, Penrith on Sunday.

Jersey Flegg Cup

The Raiders’ Jersey Flegg Cup side suffered a heavy 52-14 defeat to the Storm last Saturday at Raiders Belconnen.

It was the Storm who opened the game with a try in the first five minutes, with Gabriel Satrick jumping out of dummy half with no one in front of him to gift the Storm an early lead.

It didn’t take long for the Green Machine to pounce back as Xavier Cacciotti powered his way to the line to tie the score up.

It was a one-way road as the Storm scored three consecutive tries to push their lead to 24-6 going into the halftime break.

The Storm came back out with intent, piling on the points to run away with a big 52-14 victory.

The Raiders will look to bounce back in round nine against the Panthers at Parker Street Reserve, Penrith on Sunday.
