Belconnen United Sharks fullback Mya McGlynn will represent Australian Universities later this year after her strong display in the number one jersey for NSW Universities in the inaugural women’s interstate rugby league challenge against their QLD counterparts at North Sydney Oval last Sunday.

McGlynn proved elusive every time she touched the ball, making a number of incisive carries into the QLD defence on kick returns. She was joined in celebrating the 10-6 victory by two other players from the Canberra local rugby league competition in Lola Fletcher and Gabbie Davis.

“The match was pure intensity for the whole 70 minutes,” McGlynn, who is studying a Bachelor of Primary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Canberra, said.

“It was brutal and although we didn’t execute to the highest standard we worked hard for one another and that's what allowed us to come away with the win

“Making the side felt really good, it was a proud moment, and I'm excited to see what's to come. It just shows that there is opportunity for us Canberra girls who haven’t had the chance to be seen through comps like the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Championship.”

Details of Australian Universities women’s inaugural match will be confirmed at a later date.
