'The perfect guy to have in a decider' - Hosking backs Papalii's Origin return

The Canberra Raiders are continuing to celebrate strong performances across the field, with Zac Hosking full of compliments for seasoned forward Josh Papali’i ahead of his return to the State of Origin arena.

Hosking commended Papalii’s direction, modesty and skill this season, calling him the perfect player to have in Queensland’s forward pack for a must-win decider.

Hosking is quick to see greatness in those around him and understands what it takes to compete at the top level. This week, as seasoned forward Josh Papalii gears up for his comeback to the Maroons side in the Origin decider, Hosking was full of recognise for his teammate.

“Playing with him every week, I know what he brings - and it’s going to be a tough day for New South Wales,” Hosking stated. “I’m stoked for Papa, as a mate and teammate, to be back in that arena. But as a New South Welshman, not too happy about it,” he chuckled.

Papalii’s call-up wraps off an exciting month for the Raiders forward, who missed the arrival of his son to play for the Green Machine, and gave one of his most powerful performances of the season that very night.

“It’s certainly been a month to remember for him,” Hosking said. “His wife Sepa gave him the blessing to go and play, and he played a tremendous game. Then, to find out just before the game that Jeremaiah had been born… It’s a special moment and a great reward for Papa.”

Hosking described Papalii as the "perfect guy to have in a decider" and claimed that no one in his team was shocked to see him selected again for Queensland.

“He keeps his cards close to his chest. He’s too humble to say anything like that,” Hosking described.

“But surprised? Not at all. He’s been unreal for us this year, and his Origin record speaks for itself — this will be his 24th game for Queensland.”

It’s not just on the big stage where Hosking witnesses the dedication and pride that comes with wearing green. The dedicated forward, who is currently in his second season with the team, claims that the bond between the team and the Canberra community has only gotten stronger.

“The Canberra fans this year have really turned out for us,” he said. “We’ve had a few big milestone games — especially Papa’s record-breaking game — and that was an awesome atmosphere. Probably one of my favourite games I’ve played in.”
