NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Round 18 Wrap

The NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg teams both suffered losses last weekend, going down to the Magpies and Tigers respectively.

Knock On Effect NSW Cup

The Raiders NSW Cup side fell to the Western Suburbs Magpies 22-18 last Saturday at GIO Stadium.

Canberra started the game strong, with two consecutive tries handing them an early 12-6 lead at halftime.

They started the second half with the same momentum, with Jordan Martin breaking through the Magpies’ defence to score only three minutes in to extend their lead.

Unfortunately, the game then got away from the Raiders with the Magpies mounting a strong comeback and sealing the win with a late try in the 75th minute.

The Raiders sit 10th on the ladder but are eager to climb up to still have hope of finals contention.

Jersey Flegg Cup

The Raiders’ Jersey Flegg side finished round 18 with a narrow 26-24 loss against the Wests Tigers at Raiders Belconnen, marking their first loss since round eight.

It was a tight contest between both sides with the final result determined in the last minutes of the game.

The Raiders opened the scoring 11 minutes in with the Tigers following closely after, locking the scores 10-all at halftime.

Sylas Simon kept the Raiders’ chances alive bagging a double to extend their lead 24-16. But the Tigers remained resilient and added another 10 points with four minutes left in the match to steal the win from the green machine.

The Raiders stay second on the ladder only two points behind the top of the table the Melbourne Storm.
