The Woden Valley Rams have been removed of the two competition points won in Round 10 against the West Belconnen Warriors due to a breach of the PPIS.
The Player Points Index System (PPIS) is a statewide grassroots system that ensures the sustainability of clubs in competitions, while encouraging the promotion of their players along the many pathways which our game provides at all player levels.
The CRRL consulted with NSWRL about a course of action which led to the Woden Valley Rams being sent a breach notice, with the Rams provided the right to appeal the decision.
In a decision ratified at this week’s board meeting, the result will be awarded to the West Belconnen Warriors, the team points were removed, club championship points were removed and a suspended monetary fine until the end of the 2026 Canberra Raiders Cup season was imposed.
The players will keep their individual points scored and the best and fairest points will be retained.
As a result, the West Belconnen Warriors remain in third position, now on 15 competition points, the Tuggeranong Bushrangers now sit in fourth position on 12 points, with the loss of points seeing the Rams relegated to fifth position on 11 points.
“The CRRL committee concluded for the integrity of the competition the breach had to be upheld in that the 90-point mark was broken,” CRRL General Manager Mark Vergano said.
“The committee acknowledged that there was no deliberate intent here to mislead or to take unfair advantage, but a clear mark of delineation was broken in the administrative sense. That is why the individual player points were maintained as the breach was on a team basis and administrative, not by the playing individuals.”
The Canberra Region Rugby League will make no further comment on the matter and now looks forward to the final five rounds of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup and upcoming finals series.
