NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Finals Week 1 Wrap

The Canberra Raiders Knock-On Effect NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides will both progress to week 2 of finals despite contrasting results in their first finals matches of 2025.

NSW Cup would claim a 24-20 win over the Newtown Jets in Sydney in their elimination final, while Jersey Flegg narrowly fell to the Sharks but will remain alive in finals as they look forward to another clash this weekend.

The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup

Down on troops due to NRL promotions, the Raiders NSW Cup side still managed to produce an impressive outing which will see them progress in the finals.

Raiders would shoot out to a 18-0 lead at halftime as Luke Tuialii, Mutua Brown, Atini Tuialii would each nab a try of their own through a deadly combination of silky backline movements and brute strength crashing over the line.

The Jets came out a different side in the second half, narrowing the margin with two quick tries in the 11 minutes after leaving the sheds.

However, putting a halt on their momentum and finding what would ultimately be the match winner, Jaxon Lavender would collect a short ball in the 55th minute and do his best impression of a bulldozer to find the white line.

Despite the Jets finding another two tries of their own and making the tally four tries each, Braydan Darmody would be the difference as the halfback converted 4/4 to seal the match.

Jersey Flegg Cup

In the match prior NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg would put up a brave effort despite falling to the sharks 16-12.

The difference in the match would lie in the opening stages as the Sharks would score two quickfire tries in the first 6 minutes. Though the men in green managed to steady the ship and respond with their own try in the 14th minute through centre Tariq Tanner.

Sharks managed just one more try in the match, also in the first half which would take their final total to 16 points.

The Raiders however, would manage one try in the second half through Jamie Cowling to narrow the margin. Despite a successful 2/2 off the boot for Kruger Roache the side would just fall short at fulltime.

Both sides will head into week 2 of their respective competitions this weekend.
