Queanbeyan Blues taste Grand Final success in nail-biting win

The Quenbeyan Blues have got Grand Final revenge over the Queanbeyan Kangaroos, claiming the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup in a 28-26 comeback victory at Seiffert Oval.

Despite being down by eight throughout most of the match, the Queanbeyan Blues never die attitude is what delivered the 2025 Canberra Raiders Cup back to the Blues.

Dylan Mclachlan was superb throughout the match, scoring two tries, including the match-winner and setting up two to bring home the Canberra Raiders Cup.

Inside the first four minutes of the game, Dylan Mclachlan kicked into the in goal and chased to score and give the Blues an early 6-0 lead.

The Roos held strong in defence throughout the half, keeping the Blues to only one try after defending multiple sets close to their line.

The Blues with the help of a penalty travel downfield and a freakish play from Connor Williams, who beat three defenders and put in a kick, saw Jack Anderson run through and score to push the Blues to a 12-nil lead.

With the help of an error, the Roos grabbed their first opportunity, and through a short ball from Lachlan Ingram, Harlem Cooper spun his way to the line and scored the Roos' first to make it 12-6.

A spread to the left-hand side of the Blues which fell to the ground, Lucas Thomson picked it up and skipped away towards the tryline and found Rob Sheffield who scored in the corner and cuts the deficit to 12-10.

Rob Shieffeld claimed his second just minutes later, darting out from dummy half and bumped off a couple of defenders to take a 14-12 lead.

The Roos defended their lead and head into the sheds with a 14-12 lead.

In the first set of the second half, Sam Williams nailed a 40/20 which saw them attack close to the line early on.

It was Sam Williams once again, with a pin-point cross field kick looking for Sheffield but ended in the hands of Lucas Thomson who puts it down and makes it 20-12 inside the first five minutes.

The Blues had finally broken the line with a pinpoint kick from McLachlan towards Uasi Leota, who took it in the air and scores to cut the deficit to 20-18.

Off the back of a penalty, the Roos hopped through Sam Williams who threw a dummy and drew in the fullback and gave it off to Bayley Hitchcock who scored under the posts and pushed their lead out to 26-18 with 11 minutes remaining in the half.

Just when the Blues looked down and out, McLachlan put up an attacking kick and through Uasi Leota, who comes down with it to score his second and cuts the deficit to 26-22 with just five minutes remaining.

Unbelievable scenes at Seiffert Oval with the man of the moment McLachlan beating a couple with a left footstep and scoring under the post to bring the premiership back to the Blues in a thrilling 28-26 victory.
