NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Finals Week 2 Wrap

The Canberra Raiders Knock-On Effect NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides have fallen in week two of finals, ending both of their respective 2025 seasons.

Despite a late surge for NSW Cup, a comeback would fall just short as the side went down 36-30 to the Parramatta Eels. Meanwhile the Jersey Flegg team were defeated by 14 points despite a strong effort against the Penrith Panthers at Leichardt Oval in Sydney.

Despite the Raiders NSW Cup side conceding an early try in the 6th minute to Eels winger Jake Tago, the Canberra outfit would quickly bounce back, scoring a rebuttal try in the 12th minute through Noah Martin.

Parramatta however would find themselves adding another two four-pointers to their total in the 17th and 24th minutes of the match. Chevy Stewart would narrow the Eels lead in the 30th minute with Adam Cook adding the extras, taking the score at the break to 16-12 in Parramatta's favour.

Returning from the break, the Eels would find two quickfire tries within seven minutes to extend their lead. After 10 minutes of arm-wrestle the Eels would manage another scoring effort as halfback Ronald Volkman found his second of the match. Raiders would later launch their counterattack as they found two rapid tries of their own as Noah Martin nabbed his second while Ethan Sanders also crossed just three minutes after.

In the 71st minute Volkman would get a third try to ultimately put the Eels out of reach and lock up the match. Manaia Waitere managed a try for the green machine in the 75th minute but unfortunately it was too little too late for the Raiders.

Jersey Flegg Cup

Prior to the NSW Cup match at Leichardt Oval, the Raiders Jersey Flegg side would also fall in their finals fixture despite a hard fight to the very end.

In similar means to the NSW Cup team, the opposition would open the scoring, though in this case the Panthers would find two tries in the opening 10 minutes.

Following this, the Raiders would compose, find a try of their own through Sylas Simon and steady the ship which would result in a 6-12 half-time score.

It was the second half however where the Panthers managed to press their advantage, finding four tries in after the break.

After conceding three of the four, Raiders responded in the 63rd minute as prop Caleb Garvie found the white stripe.

Unable to keep up momentum, the next try would fall the way of the Panthers in the 75th minute, essentially sealing the match.

Braydan Darmody would however finish the Raiders season on a high as the fullback would end the scoring in the 78th minute, scoring the final try and converting it himself.
