Junior Reps Wrap: Round Four

It was a weekend of mixed results for the Canberra Raiders junior representatives at Raiders Belconnen with a quadruple header against Melbourne.

SG Ball Cup

The Raiders just fell short against Melbourne in the SG Ball Cup 28 - 22.

Canberra came out strong scoring two tries to Tulsyn McCulloch and Kye Anderson, ensuring a 12 point lead at the break.

But Melbourne edged Canberra out through a second half dominance with second rower Isaiah Savea scoring a double.

The Raiders will turn their attention to Round five against Manly at 4 Pines Park.

Tarsha Gale Cup

The Raiders have bounced back from their loss against the Panthers last week to win 26 - 14 in the Tarsha Gale Cup

In a close first half, the Storm led the Raiders 10 - 8 at the break after a try from winger Toefiliga Lokeni in the last 30 seconds.

Melbourne attempted to keep the lead but a second half dominance from Canberra saw them come back to claim a 12-point victory.

Canberra will continue their home-game run where they will host Manly next Saturday.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

The Raiders snatched a late draw with the Storm, resulting in a 16-all nailbiter.

Storm came out firing with winger Anaviela Weatherby scoring in the opening minute.

Canberra responded through their attack and broke straight through Melbourne’s defensive line with fullback Saige Fattore scoring in the ninth minute.

Melbourne kept extending their lead going into the second half with a 16-10 scoreboard in the final minutes.

The Raiders needed something to keep it close so with less than a minute on the clock centre Alaiela Dargin-Bell chased a messy grubber from Fattore and scored in the 57th minute.

All the pressure was on Fattore to pull out something special and she did converting the try cleanly to level the score in a dramatic ending.

Harold Matthews Cup

The Raiders are back to their winning ways with a convincing 32 - 10 win on Sunday.

Canberra made their mark early in the match with fullback Thompson Hurford scoring in the opening five minutes.

With a 10-4 lead to the Raiders at the break, Storm were hoping to bounce back.

But the Raiders kept on pushing and scored 22 points in the second half.

The Raiders are looking to keep this momentum going into round five next Saturday, when they host the Bears.
