NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Round Three Preview

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg squads return home to face off against the Canterbury Bulldogs this Saturday at Raiders Belconnen.

Kicking the day off at 12:45pm is the Jersey Flegg Cup, in a tight matchup between the two sides for round three.

The Raiders are sitting at ninth on the ladder after going one win for one loss so far in the season. After a tough 48-28 defeat to the New Zealand Warriors, the home side are aiming to bounce back and create a big impact to kickstart their season.

The Bulldogs are fresh off a bye after going down 28-0 to the Dragons in the opening round.

The history between the two sides is tight, with either team winning five games. Canberra have dominated in their previous two meetings, putting 24 points on the board each time to beat the Dogs. This tie breaker round is the Raiders chance to settle the score and prove they are a threat this season.

Fans should prepare for an action-packed, high intensity game. Ultimately, the home ground advantage looks to be key for Raiders after two away fixtures to start the year.

The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup

Rounding out the day at Raiders Belconnen is the NSW Cup side against the Bulldogs at 3pm. 

The Raiders are coming from behind at 13th on the ladder and are aiming to knock the Bulldogs out of their top eight position. Whilst the Dogs have a dominating history over the home side, the Raiders are looking to take confidence out of their 26-22 win last season.

The Raiders will see key players Jed Stuart, Matt Timoko and Daine Laurie line-up on Saturday. Owen Pattie is also looking to make a big impact from hooker, scoring a try in each of his games this season and aiming to go three from three.

Meanwhile, Canterbury have named a strong forward pack with NRL experience of Fletcher Baker and Jack Todd, headed by former Manly dummy-half Gordon Chan Kum Tong.

Saturday afternoon shapes up to be a competitive contest as both sides search their for their first win of the season.
