Junior Reps Wrap: Round Eight Wrap

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders junior reps took on the Newcastle Knights on Saturday in Cessnock as they prepare for the final round of the season this weekend.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

The Raiders LF Cup side were defeated 30-6 by the Knights in the first of four matches at Cessnock Sportsground.

Newcastle were quick out of the gates, establishing an early 18-0 lead as they held the Raiders scoreless heading into the halftime break.

Raiders halfback Daisy Pipe crossed the stripe for Canberra's only try in the 44th minute as Newcastle closed out the 30-6 victory.

The Raiders will face the Sharks in the final round game this weekend, where a win will place them in next week's finals series.

Tarsha Gale Cup

Canberra fell 26-14 to Newcastle in the Tarsha Gale Cup.

It was a see-saw first half where both sides were locked up at 10-all at the break.

Raiders interchange player Jaida-Lee Lyons broke the deadlock in the second half, taking a 14-10 lead with 20 minutes to go.

Although it was all one-way traffic from there on in, as Newcastle ran in three straight tries to close out the win.

Barring other results, a win this Saturday over the Sharks would give the Green Machine a fighting chance of playing finals football next weekend.

Harold Matthews Cup

The Raiders HM Cup side went down to the Knights 32-16 in Cessnock on Saturday.

Bailey Logue and Sonny Lauvao opened the scoring from the Raiders to establish an early 10-nil lead in the opening ten minutes.

Newcastle hit straight back with a double of their own to trail the Raiders 10-8 at the break.

The Knights scored three tries in 12 minutes after the break to blow the Raiders off the park, before Daesjarn Coyle scored the late one to secure their 32-16 win.

Canberra also have a chance to feature in the HM Cup finals series, barring a win over the Sharks and results to go their way.

SG Ball Cup

The Raiders SG Ball Cup side were defeated 28-10 by the Knights heading into the final round of the season.

Newcastle showed their class in the second half as they put the Raiders away to get back into the top eight.

Raiders fullback Kye Anderson was a shining light in their defeat, scoring a try and making a number of cover tackles from the back.

Canberra take on the Sharks this Saturday in their final game of the season.
