NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Round Five Wrap

The Raiders JF Cup side kicked off a triple header in Newcastle on Sunday morning, defeating the Knights 46-16 at their Centre of Excellence.

It was a back and forth first half, with the Raiders taking the 18-12 advantage at the halftime break, courtesy of a Sylas Simon try-double.

But it was all one-way traffic after the break as Canberra put the Knights to the sword, piling on five tries in the second half to grab the important victory.

Raiders five-eighth Braydon Darmody had a standout performance, picking up a try, try assist and converted six goals.

The Raiders now sit eighth on the ladder and will travel to Fiji to take on the Silktails this Saturday.

The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup

It was a tale of two halves in the NSW Cup as the Raiders went down 25-24 to the Knights in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday afternoon.

The Raiders were slow out of the gates as the Knights scored two quick tries to hold a handy 10-nil lead after 15 minutes.

Canberra dummy-half Owen Pattie got the visitors rolling, catching the defence off-guard with a quick tap to score their first points of the afternoon.

The Raiders caught fire, scoring three more tries in the next 10 minutes to land 24-10 in-front going into the break.

The Knights turned the tide with a try of their own after the break through Marcus D'Acre to close the gap to 10 points.

Newcastle winger James Schiller crossed for a double, setting the Knights up for a sideline conversion to win the game, which waved away to the right.

The Knights closed out the victory with a field goal in the dying seconds to take the two competition points into round six.

Canberra will turn their attention to the Bears, when they take them on at North Sydney Oval on Sunday afternoon.
