NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg: Round Seven Wrap

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders completed a whitewash against the Melbourne Storm on Saturday afternoon, with the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides earning hard fought victories at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan.

The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup

Canberra had a point to prove from the get-go, scoring four tries in the opening 20 minutes, before strengthening their lead with two more before the break, leading the Storm 36-0.

The Raiders continued to dictate proceedings, picking up the first try of the second half in the 56th minute through Sione Finau.

Despite the deficit, Melbourne’s captain Trent Toelau ensured the visitors crossed the line, picking up two tries of his own in quick succession.

The Raiders responded once more, with Savelio Tamale ticking off a successful return to NSW Cup with a try in the 70th minute.

Defined by eight different try-scorers and a perfect afternoon with the boot for Coby Black, Canberra marched home defeating Melbourne 48-12.

Canberra’s victory has got the ball rolling in 2026, earning their first victory of the season, form they will be hoping to carry into round eight against the Western Suburbs Magpies.

Jersey Flegg Cup

The Melbourne Storm got off to a flyer on Saturday afternoon, with Talas Abell crossing the line in just the fourth minute, establishing an early 6-0 lead.

Despite the early pressure on the scoreboard, the Raiders struck back in dominant fashion, scoring back-to-back tries through Campbell Munn and Cooper Johnston.

Both teams crossed the line three times in the opening half, with Braydan Darmody’s boot proving to be the difference as the Raiders held an 18-14 lead heading into the sheds.

Canberra strengthened their lead with three unanswered tries to start the second half, with Alex Hardy, Sylas Simon, and Braydan Darmody adding to the tally.

Melbourne looked to have set up a grandstand finish, scoring three tries of their own in just six minutes, trailing the Raiders 36-30 entering the final ten minutes.

Cooper Johnston sealed the game in the 76th minute, finalising a 42-30 victory over Melbourne, promoting the Raiders to eighth on the competition ladder.
