Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Three Wrap

Round Three of the Katrina Fanning Shield has come to a close, with only one undefeated team remaining following three high scoring affairs.

West Belconnen Warriors 30 def. Belconnen United Sharks 18

Heading into round three, both Belconnen outfits had enjoyed undefeated starts to the season, however it was the Warriors who took the spoils in the battle of Belconnen, defeating the Sharks 30-18.

Front rower Crystal Papalii produced a dominant performance, crossing the line twice on the way to victory.

For the Sharks, centre Reese Paunovic continued to demonstrate her strong form to start the season, crossing for yet another try and converting two-from-two with the boot.

Paunovic’s efforts place her at the top of the points scoring tally through the opening three rounds.

The Warriors will strive for four straight victories against the Blues next weekend, meanwhile the Sharks face the Magpies. 

Gungahlin Bulls 34 def. Tuggeranong Bushrangers 18 

The Gungahlin Bulls have recorded their first win of the season, piecing together a strong 34-18 showing leading into the bye.

Molly Sturgiss left nothing out on the field for the Bulls, scoring a hattrick to take her season tally to five tries in just two games.

On the other side of the field, halfback Adelaide Norris matched Sturgiss’s performance, crossing for three of her own.

The Gungahlin Bulls have the bye next weekend, whilst the Tuggeranong Bushrangers take on the Woden Valley Rams at Woden Park. 

Woden Valley Rams 38 def. Yass Magpies 12

The Woden Valley Rams earnt their first victory of the year, following a comprehensive victory against the Yass Magpies.

Building off a narrow loss in their first game of the season, the Rams form to start the season has highlighted their premiership aspirations.

Halfback Lara Cosgrove lead from the front, scoring a try and enjoying a successful afternoon from the kicking tee, converting four of the teams tries.

For the Magpies, fullback Abbey Flanagan kicked two-from-two, one of which was off the back of her own try scoring effort.

The Rams welcome the Bushrangers to Woden Park next weekend, whilst the Magpies welcome the Sharks travel to Walker Park.
