Yass Magpies vs Belconnen United Sharks, Saturday 9th May, 3:00pm Walker Park
This week’s Match of the Round sees the Yass Magpies up against the Belconnen United Sharks at Walker Park.
The Magpies will be looking to regroup after a 50-6 defeat to the Rams, Aidan Pothan revealed the sides standards dropped last weekend in comparison to their opening fortnight.
“We’ll take little bits from that, but compared to our first few weeks, it wasn’t really up to our standard,” Pothan said.
With a single win from the opening round, they are currently eighth on the ladder and will be eager to regain their confidence from the beginning of the season, with the Magpies looking to return to their Round One form.
“We showed a lot more effort. We had a game plan and probably stuck to it more and everyone turned up for each other.”
The Magpies return home this Saturday after travelling to Canberra last week and are eager to us their home-ground advantage.
“It lifts us up a lot as well. All the boys and all the locals get around it, and they make it a lot easier for us.”
The Sharks head to Yass fresh off a bye following their 38-18 win over the Bushrangers in round two.
The team is undefeated this season, setting a perfect two‑from‑two record to make them a huge threat in the competition.
Jordan Holten Williams declares his side is prepped and ready to go for their match-up in Yass.
“We’ve had a good first training back this week and are ready to go after the two weeks off,” Holten Williams said.
Holten Williams also acknowledged there is still plenty of work to be done to ensure they continue their success throughout the long season ahead.
“We’re nowhere near our best. There’s still so much improvement.”
With the Magpies desperate to bounce back and the Sharks aiming to keep their streak alive, this matchup promises a thrill.
Queanbeyan Kangaroos vs Gungahlin Bulls, Saturday 9th May, 3:00pm Seears Workwear Oval
The Queanbeyan Kangaroos return to Seears Workwear Oval after a hard‑fought 22–16 win over their rivals, the Queanbeyan Blues.
Sitting first on the ladder, the Roos have been a standout side, walking away with the win in every round this season.
Meanwhile, the Gungahlin Bulls continue to hunt for their first win. Their 38-28 loss to the Bushrangers last week proved they have an attacking edge with the defensive side of their game needing improvement.
The Kangaroos will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday, while the Bulls are searching for their first win of the season.
Queanbeyan Blues vs West Belconnen Warriors, Saturday 9th May, 3:00pm Seiffert Oval
The Queanbeyan Blues are back at Seifert Oval, looking to bounce back after their narrow loss to the Kangaroos last week.
With just one win so far, the Blues sit fourth on the ladder and will be eager to gift the home crowd a victory.
The West Belconnen Warriors are coming in following their first win of the season, claiming a 22-18 victory over the Bulldogs.
Currently sixth on the ladder, the Warriors will once again look to Brandon Withers on the wing, who was outstanding last round with two tries and five conversions.
With the Blues determined to bounce back and the Warriors aiming to build on their momentum, this matchup is sure to be competitive.
Woden Valley Rams vs Tuggeranong Bushrangers, Saturday 9th May, 3:00pm Woden Park
The Woden Valley Rams return to Woden Park after last week’s dominant 50-6 win over the Magpies.
Sitting second on the ladder with two wins from two games, the Rams are continuing to impress.
Josh Fattore will continue to be a key player in their attack after completing nine conversions in their 50-point victory.
The Tuggeranong Bushrangers head into this matchup with confidence after securing their first win of the season in a 38-28 victory over the Bulls.
