Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Seven Wrap

Round 7 of the Katrina Fanning Shield has wrapped up, with strong victories being earnt by the Rams, Sharks, and Bushrangers.

Woden Valley Rams 22 def. Queanbeyan Blues 4 

The Woden Valley Rams returned to action over the weekend, securing a 22-4 victory over the Queanbeyan Blues.

Having had two consecutive byes, Saturday’s win marks the Rams third win of the season, solidifying their position in the top four.

Strong performances for the Rams included Gypsy Brookman scoring a double, and Lara Cosgrove who has maintained scoring a try in each game this season.

While the Blues continue to search for their first win of the season, they once again demonstrated a strong showing against one of the competition heavy weights.

Winger Indea Sams crossed for the Blues only try of the morning, marking her first try of the 2026 season.

Belconnen United Sharks 38 def. Gungahlin Bulls 18 

The Belconnen United Sharks and Gungahlin Bulls went head-to-head on Saturday afternoon, as the Sharks earnt their 4th victory of the season, winning 38-18.

Centre-wing pairing Reese Paunovic and Eliza Taylor both continued their try scoring hot streaks, with five tries being scored between the Sharks duo.

The efforts see both players sit atop the try scoring tally for the season, with Taylor sitting on 10 tries, closely followed by Paunovic on eight.

On the other side of the field, Gungahlin captain Tikirah-ann Douglas picked up a try along with Lily Crocker and Amelia Kiriui.

From the kicking tee, Bulls five-eighth Samantha Bailey enjoyed a successful afternoon, converting 3/3.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 20 def. Yass Magpies 4

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers have secured their second win of the season, defeating the Yass Magpies 20-4 on Saturday afternoon.

This performance follows their Round Five clash against each other, in which the Bushrangers won in a close 16-8 contest.

The Bushrangers performance was bolstered by a try scoring double to Teliya Hetaraka, along with tries to Shanice Amos and Adelaide Norris.

The Bushrangers win leaves them equal on points with the Gungahlin Bulls, who sit just within the top four on points differential.

Elsewhere, the Magpies are still searching for their first win of the season, an achievement they continue to work hardly towards.

Winger Tahlia Pothan crossed for her first points of the season, ensuring the Magpies remained in the fight.

 

The Katrina Fanning Shield will be back in action next weekend, following a round bye for the King’s Birthday weekend.
