Lomas upgraded to NRLW Supplementary contract

The Canberra Raiders are pleased to announce that Aaliyah Lomas has been upgraded to a NRLW Supplementary contract for the 2026 season.

Lomas signed with the Raiders as a development player for the 2026 season and has impressed to claim the vacant second supplementary player spot.

The 21-year-old was part of the Raiders inaugural NRLW squad in 2023 as a development player. She missed the 2024 season with an ACL injury before being a standout in the Katrina Fanning Shield for the West Belconnen Warriors team that won the Premiership in 2025.

In 2026 NRLW clubs can sign two supplementary players that sit between the Top 24 squad and the four development players and can be selected to play games in the event of an injury in the squad.

Raiders NRLW Coach Darrin Borthwick said it was special to upgrade Lomas to a supplementary contract.

“It was so rewarding,” Borthwick said.

“Obviously Aaliyah was with us year one and got an injury in the off-season prior to the following season. She has worked her way back through our local league. She played so well in our KFS (Katrina Fanning Shield) competition and was rewarded with a development contract.

“She’s come into our pre-season and has been terrific. There was always that supplementary spot to be filled. She was already in the system and was training the house down. Rather than get someone in that’s got to buy into our culture and what we are doing as a group, she was already there. It was an easy decision to elevate her and I couldn’t be happier with the way she is going. She’s well liked within the group, I’m really happy for Aaliyah.

“To see her growth, she obviously had the setback with the injury but she never really dropped the ball there. She went back and worked hard and never complained.

“It’s no coincidence that she finds herself back to where she is now. She’s a real genuine opportunity to get some footy in at NRLW level this year and she fully deserves it.”
