Round Eight of the Blumers Katrina Fanning Shield saw the Rams cementing themselves in the top four, the Blues claiming their first victory of the season and the Warriors continued their undefeated streak.
Woden Valley Rams 16 def. Gungahlin Bulls 10
The Woden Valley Rams have placed themselves within striking distance of second position, after brushing past the Gungahlin Bulls in a 16-10 nail bitter.
Saturday’s win marks four consecutive victories for the Rams, a feat earnt through strong performances similar to that of fullback, Lara Cosgrove.
Cosgrove crossed for a double on the weekend, bringing her season tally to six tries, while sitting second for total points scored with 42.
Despite the narrow loss, Gungahlin still remain within the top four and continue to display improved performances against their opposition.
Lex Papanicolaou crossed for her first try of the season, whilst Alexandra Lyras scored her second for the Bulls.
The Rams will look to rise into second position next weekend as they take on the Belconnen United Sharks, whilst the Bulls travel to Yass to face the Magpies.
Queanbeyan Blues 26 def. Yass Magpies 0
With both teams' entering Saturday’s showdown without a victory in 2026, the Blues stood up to the occasion, earning a hard fought 26-0 victory.
Queanbeyan centre Courtney Mapleson played a big part in her team’s triumph, crossing the line three times on the way to victory.
Payge Salinas also enjoyed a solid hit out, scoring a try of her own and converting 3/5 with the boot.
The Magpies will lick their wounds and return back home next weekend, as they continue their search for the first victory of the season against the Bulls, whilst the Blues welcome the Bushrangers.
West Belconnen Warriors 18 def. Woden Valley Rams 10
West Belconnen Warriors have gone two-from-two in the battle of Belconnen this season, defeating cross town rival the sharks 18-10 on Saturday afternoon.
Having come face-to-face previously in round three, there was even less that separated the two competition heavyweights this time around.
For the Warriors, Uta Uatisone Poka proved difficult to contain, continuing her try scoring form in 2026 with two tries.
On the defensive front, the Warriors ability to shut down the high-flying Eliza Taylor on the wing played a big part in remaining undefeated.
On the other side of the field, the Sharks will take confidence out of improving across the two showdowns between their rivals so far.
Centre Reese Paunovic scored her ninth try of the season, solidifying her hold on the top points scorer for the season.
Round Nine of the Katrinna Fanning Shield will be sure to cultivate local audiences, presenting a full schedule of games across Saturday the 20th of June.
