Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Nine Wrap

Round Nine of the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield saw he Belconnen United Sharks bounce back; the Blues secure back-to-back wins, and the Gungahlin Bulls establish breathing room from the chasing pack. 

Belconnen United Sharks 18 def. Woden Valley Rams 12 

The Belconnen United Sharks bounced back from their Round Eight defeat with a tight six-point victory against the Woden Valley Rams at Woden Park. 

Sharks' winger Eliza Taylor continued her impressive try scoring form this season, crossing for a double which sees her individual tally rise to twelve at the halfway point of the season. 

Lara Cosgrove and Grace Milne consistently feature in the Rams best players both scoring a try in the defeat. 

The Rams will be looking to bounce back this weekend against the Gungahlin Bulls at Gungahlin whilst the Sharks welcome the Blues to NSWRL HQ Bruce. 

Queanbeyan Blues 30 def. Tuggeranong Bushrangers 4 

The Queanbeyan Blues secured their second consecutive victory last weekend with a comprehensive display against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers. 

For a second consecutive week, Blues centre Courtney Mapleson crossed for a hat-trick in the side's dominate performance, whilst Kingi-Rawiri and Salinas both scored for the second straight game as well. 

Meanwhile, for the Bushrangers the loss is their fifth of the season and sees them sit in fifth position at the halfway point of the year, Caitlin Fazey-Robinson scored the visitors only try. 

The Bushrangers have the bye to regroup and prepare for their next match, whilst the Blues take on the second-place Sharks away from home. 

Gungahlin Bulls 20 def. Yass Magpies 6 

The Gungahlin Bulls claimed their third victory of the season against the Yass Magpies at Walker Park ensuring they finish the halfway point of the season inside the top four. 

In an all-round team performance for the visiting Bulls, forwards Amelia Kiriui and Lily Croker led from the front providing a platform for their strike players, including Krystyana Haridemos and Abbie Bailey. 

Meanwhile, for the Magpies the loss sees them remain bottom of the ladder, Maddison Higgins provided the home fans with something to cheer about crossing for a try. 

The Bulls return home next weekend for an exciting top four matchup against the Woden Valley Rams, whilst the Magpies face the competition leaders in the West Belconnen Warriors.
