Rams Cement Top Four Spot

The Woden Valley Rams cement their spot inside the top four with a physical 19-6 victory against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers at Greenway Oval. 

With the two points critical for both sides, it was the visiting Rams who walked away with the two competition points after a strong defensive display ensuring they remain in fourth spot. 

The visitors started the faster of the two teams with a well-orchestrated shift to the ridge edge, inside the opening five minutes, finished off by Sam Gash, who finished acrobatically in the corner, the winger converting his own try. 

Despite points in the opening minutes, neither side was able to find their rhythm in the opening quarter of the match, with aggressive defence the highlight of the match early. 

This physical defence saw the Bushrangers produce an error from Tom Scrivener in his own end, which provided them with their best field position of the afternoon. 

Woden Valley produced strong scramble defence to turn this initial raid; however, this saw them under pressure for the next five minutes. 

After a mountain of defence on their own line the Rams put on a counterattack with a beautiful outside inside play between Maloney and Gash, Jackson Stuart followed through and ensured they extend their lead to twelve. 

A knock on from winger Braedon Spencer off the kickoff provided the Bushrangers with another opportunity, however their inability to convert continued with an error in the play the ball. 

A field goal on the stroke of halftime from fill in fullback Sam Gash, ensured the Rams entered the break with a thirteen-point advantage over the Bushrangers.

The second stanza began similarly to majority of the first half with the Rams defensive line holding the Bushrangers attack out for the opening ten minutes. 

Despite, going through a mountain of defence it was Woden Valley next to tick over the scoreboard, through their Captain Coach Sean Maloney, bouncing off his left foot twice, before reaching out and scoring, extending his side's lead to 19-0. 

Needing to be next to score, it was the Bushrangers captain Liam Oakley who stood up for his side, receiving an offload from Daniel Hickson before beating three players to slam the ball down. 

This provided Tuggeranong with a glimmer of hope, however like it had done all afternoon the Woden Valley Rams defensive line turned them away and locked in their top four spot.
