Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 16 Wrap

Round 16 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cups saw exciting contests, headlined by the top of the table clash and an important win for the Goulburn City Bulldogs. 

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 14 def. Belconnen United Sharks 12 

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos secured a tight victory against the Belconnen United Sharks away from home to all but secure their fourth straight minor premiership. 

The Kangaroos proved why they are the competition benchmark on the weekend, producing a victory in the dying stages curtesy of a Lucas Thomson penalty goal, Josh Ayers was strong in the back row crossing for a try and leading from the front with his physicality. 

Meanwhile, for the Sharks the loss sees them remain in second position and they will rue some missed opportunities, turning down two potential attempts at penalty goals in the last ten minutes. 

The Kangaroos have a well earnt bye round prior to the final's series next weekend, whilst the Sharks will look to avoid back-to-back losses when they travel to Raiders Belconnen to face to the Warriors. 

Goulburn City Bulldogs 22 def. Woden Valley Rams 16 

Goulburn City secured a critical victory for their final's aspirations last Saturday defeating the Woden Valley Rams at home. 

Led by the halves combination of Latham and Cornish, the Bulldogs have leapfrogged the Rams into fourth position and into pole position for a finals berth with three rounds remaining. 

Whilst, for the Rams the defeat places them outside the top four and a win back from their weekend's opponents, with the side from Woden Valley now dependent on results going their way in the run home. 

The Bulldogs will look to keep their momentum going next weekend against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers at home, while the Rams travel to Gungahlin for a matchup against the Bulls. 

West Belconnen Warriors 28 def. Tuggeranong Bushrangers 26 

The West Belconnen Warriors sank the Tuggeranong Bushrangers finals chances over the weekend in a thriller at Greenway Oval. 

A four try haul from fullback Saxon Innes guided the West Belconnen Warriors to their fifth victory of the season and sees them climb to sixth position on the ladder. 

Meanwhile, the Tuggeranong Bushrangers suffered their eighth defeat of the season which sees them out of finals calculations, Bassy Jones tried to get his side over the line scoring a double. 

The Bushrangers will look to bounce back next weekend against the Goulburn City Bulldogs in Goulburn, whilst the Warriors face their cross-town rivals in the Sharks. 

Queanbeyan Blues 60 def. Gungahlin Bulls 12 

The Queanbeyan Blues proved way too strong for the Gungahlin Bulls at Seiffert Oval posting sixty points on their multicultural round. 

Hat-tricks from Connor Williams and Jamie Mazzarol Kotz were the highlights from the 11 try effort which sees the Blues keep their top two chances alive. 

For the Bulls, the loss is their tenth of the season with it being a tough afternoon for the visitors, Lemalu and Brown crossing for their only tries. 

The Bulls will look to bounce back next weekend at home against the Woden Valley Rams, and the Blues travel to Yass for a match against the Magpies.
