Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 17 Wrap

It was an intriguing round in the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield with high scoring contests and a team securing their first victory of the season. 

Belconnen United Sharks 46 def. West Belconnen Warriors 12 

The Belconnen United Sharks secured a comprehensive victory against the West Belconnen Warriors ensuring the race for the Minor Premiership remains alive. 

The attacking ability of the Sharks was on full display on Saturday afternoon, with the nine tries to two victory highlighting their ability to score points against anyone, the right edge continued to be damaging with a hat-trick to Reese Paunovic and Eliza Taylor. 

Meanwhile, it was a tough afternoon for the West Belconnen side with minimal numbers causing issues defensively, middle forwards Nirvana Ngan Woo and Kiani Harawira toiled tirelessly all day both being rewarded with a four pointer. 

The Warriors have the bye this weekend to recover, whilst the Sharks take on the Woden Valley Rams in a top four showdown. 

Woden Valley Rams 40 def. Gungahlin Bulls 0 

The Woden Valley Rams claimed a comprehensive victory away from home against the Gungahlin Bulls. 

The eight tries to nil victory ensure the Rams will finish in third position, Grace Milne, Lara Cosgrove and Gypsy Brookman all grabbed braces in Woden's eighth win of the season. 

Meanwhile, it was a tough afternoon for the Gungahlin Bulls with the heavy defeat their fifth loss of the season and could dent their confidence ahead of a finals campaign. 

The Bulls will be striving to bounce back next weekend at home against the Yass Magpies, whilst the Rams travel to NSWRL HQ Bruce for a contest against the Sharks. 

Yass Magpies 26 def. Queanbeyan Blues 14 

The Yass Magpies secured their first victory of the season on Saturday against the Queanbeyan Blues at home. 

A hat-trick from dummy half Jenna Cooke assisted her side in claiming their sole victory of the season, with it sure provide a significant boost to confidence in the final fortnight of the season. 

Whilst, for the Blues the loss is their seventh of the season and whilst finals were out of the picture it places a halt in the momentum they were building, Payge Salinas form continued with the talented dummy half scoring a try in the defeat. 

Yass will look for two straight victories next weekend when they travel to Gungahlin to face the Bulls, whilst the Blues travel to Greenway to take on the Bushrangers.
