Katrina Fanning Shield: Washout Round Preview

The final round of the Katrina Fanning Shield kicks off this Saturday, as teams have their final opportunity to fine tune their skills heading into week one of the finals.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Gungahlin Bulls, Greenway Oval, Saturday 29th August, 10:40am

Tuggeranong are set for their final appearance of the season as they play host to the Bulls on Saturday morning, hoping to close out their 2026 campaign on a high.

Coming off the back of a heavy 46-6 defeat at the hands of the Blues, Tuggeranong will be searching for a positive note to round out their season, one that could rustle the feathers of the Bulls heading into finals.

Adelaide Norris will surely be in the mix if the Bushrangers are to cause any damage, with the halfback having topped the scoring sheet with seven tries for the season.

For Gungahlin, they will be looking to build momentum as they build towards a semi-final’s showdown next week.

Powering centre Molly Sturgiss will be of note for the Bushrangers defence, as a rich vein of form has seen her cross the line 15 times already this season.

Having previously met in round one of the competition, both teams are playing for bragging rights after nothing could separate the two in a 24 all draw.

West Belconnen Warriors v Queanbeyan Blues, Seears Workwear Oval, Saturday 29th August, 10:40am

The Warriors are set to take on the Queanbeyan Blues on Saturday morning, as the finals bound outfit will be desperate to string together some quality footy.

Coming off the bye in round 18 and having suffered a heavy 46-12 defeat the week before, West Belconnen will be desperate to rediscover the form that saw them at the top of the table for much of the season.

On the other side of the field, Queanbeyan will be hoping to land one last blow to close out their season, heading into the final round having won two of their last three matches.

Boom centre Courtney Mapleson will be sure to see plenty of ball in the Blues final outing, having scored five tries last week to round out her season tally to 17.

Yass Magpies v Woden Valley Rams, Walker Park, Saturday 29th August, 12:00pm

The Yass Magpies welcome the Rams to Walker Park this Saturday afternoon, as the Woden based outfit have their last rehearsal before finals.

Having suffered a 26-12 loss in round 18, the Magpies will be hoping to rally one final time in 2026 and knock off one of the competition heavy weights in front of their home crowd.

The Rams also enter Saturday’s match on the back of 24-12 loss to the Sharks and will be eager for the opportunity to find some confidence heading into week one of the finals.

Yass will be sure to highlight Lara Cosgrove’s name during their preparations this week, with the skilled halfback having scored 17 tries this season.

When these two teams met in round three of the competition, Woden prevailed 38-12 at Woden Park.
