The Lady Raiders will be continuing to support charities in the Canberra community by participating in the 5 kilometre Colour Run this Sunday at Stage 88, Commonwealth Park.

The Colour Run is a fun-filled run where participants are sprayed with a variety of coloured paints which leaves them looking akin to a rainbow at the conclusion of the run.

The Colour Run is a commercial event which chooses to support charities to give back to the local community, something which the Lady Raiders are very passionate about.

Each Colour Run supports a local charity partner, along with the event’s national philanthropic partner, Swisse’s Celebrate Life Foundation.

This year’s charity is the Canberra Hospital Foundation.

The Canberra Hospital Foundation is the principal fundraising body for the Canberra Hospital, the largest public hospital in the region supporting a population of almost 540,000 from Canberra and surrounding regions.

The Foundation raises funds for equipment and research as well as for improving facilities to make them more comfortable and inviting for patients, their carers and families. All funds raised by the Foundation stay within Canberra to support the local community.

Cassie White, wife of Raiders Vice-Captain Brett, is thrilled to be able to assist in enriching the local community through participating in the event along with the other Lady Raiders.

“Well the boys all do their bit for charity so it’s great that we can all get together and do our bit for charity too,” Cassie said.

“There’s 10 of us doing the Colour Run on the weekend and what’s great is that a few of the new girls are participating this year so it’s a good opportunity for them to get to know everyone before the season starts whilst also making a positive difference in the community.

“A lot of the girls are fitness freaks so they didn’t need a lot of convincing. I’m more worried about myself trying to get the 5 kilometres done,” laughed Cassie. “It should be fun though. It’s great that we can support a respectable charity and keep fit at the same time.”

The Lady Raiders will be wearing specially designed shirts for the event. Although they look splendid now, they will be hardly recognisable at the conclusion of the run due to the multiple colours of spray they will be covered in.

One of the specially designed shirts will be signed by the entire Raiders NRL squad and auctioned off for charity in the Women in League Round.

“The Lady Raiders shirts look awesome but they probably won’t look the best by the end of the Colour Run,” Cassie said.  “It’s fantastic that one of the Lady Raiders shirts will be signed by all the players and auctioned off during the Women In League Round to raise some money for a selected charity.

“We’d love to get on board to assist other charities or fundraising initiatives that we come across throughout the year because a lot of the girls, particularly the mums, love to get out in the community and help out as much as possible.”
