Raiders cruise past Panthers at McDonalds Park

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg side has put on an attacking masterclass at McDonalds Park in Wagga Wagga to defeat the highly fancied Penrith Panthers 37-12.

The Raiders got off to the perfect start as Matt Timoko raced through to pounce on a grubber kick put in by Toby Westcott.

The Raiders continued to pile on the pressure and another couple of quick tries firstly through Harley Smith-Shields on the left edge which was then followed up by Charlie Rorke who showed too much strength to score under the posts.

Penrith rallied shortly after the Raiders third try and were able to cross over from out wide courtesy of Stephen Crichton. The young centre soon grabbed his second shortly after for the Panthers to make the score 16-12 heading into the sheds at half time.

The Raiders came out firing at the start of the second half with Duwanye Mariner planting the ball under the posts.

The young Raiders continued to work hard and hooker Kyle Paterson extended the Raiders lead in the 49th minute after crossing over from dummy half.

Paterson continued to lead the charge for the young Raiders side and soon grabbed his second of the match to put the Raiders into a 30-12 lead with ten minutes to go.

Halfback Toby Westcott slotted a late field goal to put the Raiders into a 31-12 lead however there was still time for one more as Daine Spencer worked his way inside from the wing to put the icing on the cake and give the Jersey Flegg side a 37-12 win.
