Jersey Flegg Preview: Raiders v Tigers

The Raiders in-form Jersey Flegg team travel to Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday afternoon, to take on the Wests Tigers in round 13.

The third placed Raiders are fresh off their 36-16 win over the bulldogs last weekend and will be looking to make it five wins in a row against the 10th placed Tigers.

Raiders Coach Ash Barnes said he’s been impressed with his sides form and the way their building into their season so far.

“We’ve been winning games and seeing improvement, but we haven’t quite reached our best just yet,” Barnes said. “Having said that I’m very happy with the week to week improvement of the team and how they are working hard for each other.”

Barnes said the dedication of the squad to their preparation has been crucial to their position on the ladder and he’s keen to see where they can go if they remain dedicated to this.

“A big part of our form has been our preparation. We’ve been putting in some tough sessions on the training field and it’s paying off on game day,” he said. “Like I said, its all about improvement and if we continue to see that we’ll be in every game.”

The Raiders face a Tigers this week who have been in and out of form during the first half of the season, but Barnes is under no illusions to the threat they possess.

“Their position on the ladder doesn’t reflect the side they have. They did have a couple of losses before the byes, but their early season for was quite strong,” he said. “They’ve got a big forward pack so we’ll need to be strong in the middle part of the field to contain them and gain field position”

Barnes said he’s impressed with the way his playmakers Jarrett Subloo, Toby Westcott and Daine Spencer have developed over the last few matches, but it’s all about the teams forwards getting the side on the front foot.

“I’m really happy with the way Jarrett, Toby and Daine have been working together and their game management is getting better each week,” he said. “Its all about the forwards laying a platform for us though so these guys can do what they need to do.”
