Seven straight for high flying Magpies

The Yass Magpies have claimed their seventh consecutive win as they beat the Queanbeyan Blues 14-0 at Walker Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Yass Magpies started the match brightly as Victoria Alley scored after five minutes. The centre found herself unmarked on the right edge before latching onto a pin-point Hollie Massey kick to score.

From that moment on the match became a grind as the two sides battled for field position.

However, a penalty in favour of the Magpies helped them start a set in attacking territory and Gabrielle Suckling caught the Blues napping in defence to score from dummy half.

Shannon Wright’s conversion attempt hit the post and bounced out for the second time in the afternoon as Yass held an 8-0 lead at the break.

The second half continued to be a grind but Yass thought they’d scored again when Suckling once again tried her luck from dumm-half. However, the fullback lost control of the ball as she came into contact with Shantelle Hellyer.

The Blues were camped in Yass’ half for the final 15 minutes of the match and Jacinta Williams looked to have forced her way over the line but couldn’t ground the ball.

The Magpies sealed the win right on fulltime as Hollie Massey scored from dummy half.
