Katrina Fanning Shield

  • Position: 2nd (Premiers)
  • 6 wins, 2 losses
  • Points for: 204
  • Points against: 60

The Bushpies had an excellent 2020 season, capped off with winning the Katrina Fanning Shield.

The Bushpies joined the competition at the start of the season as a mix of players from the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and Yass Magpies. Many of the players faced each other in the 2019 KFS grand final, so building combinations quickly was important given the shortened season.

The Bushpies started with two solid wins straight off the bat, improving as the season progressed and working their way to the grand final.

The Bushpies were strong defensively all season, leaking only 60 points and holding teams to zero four times.

Their two losses against the Queanbeyan Blues in rounds three and six were tight and tough games, but the Bushpies managed to bounce back.

The team defeated the Blues 12-10 in the final round of the season before meeting them again in the grand final, which the Bushpies won.

Nirvana Ngan-Woo had an wonderful season for the Bushpies, winning the Katrina Fanning Shield Best & Fairest Award.

Halfback Eilish Winbank finished the season as top try scorer for her side, with seven tries.

Season Highlight

Winning the Katrina Fanning Shield was the highlight of the Bushpies season.

Against a dangerous Blues outfit, the Bushpies proved too good and claimed a 22-12 grand final win.

Samara Afele, Ema Masi and Jenna Cooke all scored tries, with Afele winning the Cath Welch Medal for Player of the Match.
