CRRL Cup Reserve Grade

  • Position: 2nd (Runners-up)
  • 5 wins, 3 losses
  • Points for: 172
  • Points against: 100

Usually competing in the George Tooke Shield, this year the UC Stars men’s side joined the CRRL Cup Reserve Grade competition due to a lack of teams.

They exceeded expectations and had a terrific season, reaching the grand final at season’s end.

The Stars lost their first game of the season but bounced back and won their next two matches against the Queanbeyan Blues and Gungahlin Bulls. They fell to the Woden Valley Rams in round four before winning three of their final four games to finish the regular season in second place.

UC had the best attack in the competition, scoring 172 points during the season. The Mose brothers were big additions to the team, while the halves pairing of Luke Wilson and Dave Turner combined well and set up many attacking opportunities.

Jonathan Mose was a standout player for the UC Stars, winning the CRRL Cup Reserve Grade Best and Fairest 2020 award. Mose recorded points in all of his games except for one, with four man of the match performances throughout the competition.

Season Highlight

Needing to win their final round game to make the grand final, the Stars recorded a comprehensive 40-4 win over the Gungahlin Bulls to reach the big dance.

The side ran in nine tries to seal the win. Iszac Bell, Matthew Woolnough, Ranapiri Baker, Jacob Howard, Luke Bray, Patrick King, Jonathan Mose and Jerome Mose all crossed for four-pointers.

The side competed hard in the grand final but couldn’t get the job done against the Woden Valley Rams.

CRRL Cup Ladies League Tag

  • Position: 4th
  • 0 wins, 8 losses
  • Points for: 8
  • Points against: 360

It was a step up in opposition for the UC Stars League Tag side, who joined the competition this year to help the season go ahead.

The side fought hard every game, but didn’t record any wins.

The Stars scored two tries throughout the season. Lauren Nicholson scored a try in round three and Erin Dalley crossed the try-line in round nine, both against the Gungahlin Bulls.

Rachel Moran and Taylor Giggins were the top two UC Stars players on the Best and Fairest leaderboard at season’s end.

Season Highlight

Their round four match against the Woden Valley Rams.

The Stars lost the game 14-0 but it was their closest match of the season, and was an exciting game.

UC had lost to the Rams 52-0 in round one, so they showed much improvement facing them the second time around.
